Hi Everyone! At the rate I am posting to my Blog I might have to start calling this article Random Sign of the week! Anyway, here is today's featured business. Penny Weights on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. Like most of the locals, and many of the tourists, Pearl Street is a great place to people watch and eat great food on a patio during a sunny day.

Penny Weights Jewelry - Dimensional Letter Signs

I love doing Signs on Pearl Street! It gives me a lot of pride to know my company has placed so many iconic signs and awnings this historic walkway over the years. I love walking my two young boys down during a cool evening and pointing out all of my customers, showing them the impact Signdealz has had over the years. Pearl Street businesses tend to last a long time, especially if you get a good spot on the main walkway. However, be careful if you wander even a half a block off the main thoroughfare, your luck tends to change quickly, and not for the good.

Penny Weights is a silver jewelry store specializing in low price point silver jewelry. We installed their foam dimensional letter set back in 2008. I have some points for you dreamers, thinking of starting a business on pearl street. First, consider your timing. Signs on this historic district can take up to one month longer than anywhere else in Boulder. Why? The City of Boulder requires a historic review that includes design and color selection. Your sign company (Hopefully Us!) will submit a historic review application with physical color samples. If it's an awning you have to have a revocable permit for the right of way, building permit, and if it contains signage, a separate sign permit. Second, all of that permitting is going to cost you more $$$, because it tends to take a lot of staff time to process a permit for Pearl Street. We usually charge $450 dollars to process a permit for Pearl Street. It takes on average 5 trips to the permit office to get the permit all of the way through the City of Boulder's SLOWLY grinding wheels.

The City of Boulder tends to lean towards signs with a lot of craftsmanship like rustic metal signs, routed letter signs, cabinet signs with push through letters, and decorative patio awnings. The more historic look and feel, the better!
