With Bracia, the challenges were many, but with some innovation Signdealz converted this old TGI Fridays location into a sign success story.
I often say, the electric and architectural sign business is one of the most challenging businesses in existence. The reason is due the the numerous obstacles sign companies must navigate enable to deliver a signage solution that works. In the case of Bracia, we had a form of branded building architecture from the previous tenant tha really made it difficult to place a prominent sign on the building in a cost effective way.
The previous sign was attached directly to the building using building mounted supports directly to the signs themselves. They jutted out the the building and attached the TGIF logo signage. This type of attachment method works well when you are building your cookie cutter restaurant from the ground up. Meaning, it gets cheaper when you build 500 restaurants the same way, It becomes difficult for the next guy to be able to use the architecture, but that's the next guys problem. Our problem was the black cone that jutted out of the building. the first big issue with that building feature was it was encased in ceramic tile, making it expensive to remove and very difficult to be able to mount anything into it without major damage.
Our client wanted a marquee sign that jumped out toward South Parker Rd. They gave us the challenge of designing a great sign that overcame the architectural challenges while remaining somewhat cost effective.
Our solution started with a way to keep the use of the clients logo consistent, and place it on the wall. We needed to use a cost effective sign type, so we started with standard channel letters. The big problems was still how to attach those letters to the wall. We developed a U shaped bracket system that bolted throughout the faux stone wall. With the design of the bracketing system complete, we needed to have a place to store the power supplies and hide the wiring.
The supports also became the wire way for each band of signs. The structural supports contain the wiring and power supplies in a water proof enclosure that is UL listed. This bracket assembly allowed us to float over the architectural feature, while getting the sign closer to the street.
