Electric Sign Companies Won’t Last

Today, I called on one of our installation partners and a new voice was on the other line with a new company name. Our now to be unnamed installation partner had bit the dust, closing their doors for good about two weeks ago. After a brief conversation with the new owner of the deceased’s phone number and client list, I found our what had caused my old friend to exit the sign business. The diagnosis. Poor management and they just couldn’t find enough business to keep the ship afloat. However, my installation partner had served us diligently. Providing excellent customer service and had some really highly trained techs. I was really surprised to hear the news.My now deceased old friend had been consumed by the beginning of a tide change in our industry that started in 2010. I believe we are now witnessing fundamental transformation of the electric sign industry. A complex combination of factors are pulling the market providers into two distinct groups. Very Large and Very Small. The full service sign companies standing in the middle of the market have the most to lose and are will be the first to fall. I’m going to give you two forms of data, empirical and anecdotal to support my hypothesis. Here are a list of empirical market factors affecting the electric sign industry listed below. I suggest there is significant acceleration in all cost driver categories with the exception of one. Technology. When you go through the next few paragraphs, think how these factors have affected your business. Raw Material Inflation: Raw material inflation has driven cost for industry... read more

Vehicle Wraps Mobile Advertising

As a business owner, when you spend money on advertising, you want it to go as far as it can. A billboard can be seen by thousands of people every day. So why not put that billboard on wheels? Vehicle Wraps allow you to do exactly that – at a fraction of the cost of other advertising methods. Think about it: One delivery van traveling around the city or state as it normally would… a cost already factored in to your business. Now, why not turn that time on the road into advertising time, and generate business as you do business? Vehicle Graphics and Car Wraps – Boulder The best part of Vehicle Wraps is that you can customize every aspect of the wrap. You can include photographic elements, color fades, holographic elements, reflective surfaces, full color digital printing, and protective coatings. Channel Letter Signs That Stand Out

Channel Letter Signs That Stand Out

In an increasingly competitive business landscape, excellent visibility is every business’ goal in order to stand out in a crowded marketplace. Business centers need a clean corporate look on their facades. Hotels and restaurants are more inviting with cozy business signs. Vibrant and spirited channel letter signage is what theaters, bars and casinos cannot do without. These needs can be addressed by channel letter signs. What are channel letter signs? A channel letter is a custom-made 3-dimensional letter sign fabricated from a sheet metal, typically aluminum, or plastic. The sheet of metal is cut by a computerized router or laser into the letter shapes needed to form the back of the channel letters. Then about 3 to 6-inch-wide strips along the edges of the cut channel letter are bent to 90 degrees to form the sides of the channel letter called the returns. To create a finished appearance, a trim cap is used to cover the edges of the returns. An acrylic or metal face can be used to form the front of the channel letter. A plastic channel letter, on the other hand, is made of injection molded plastic cans. Channel letter signs can be illuminated by neon gas tubes or LED modules. What are the types of channel letter signs? Unlike generic light boxes and other traditional signs, channel letters offer the flexibility of design for a distinctive and personalized appearance that can set your business apart from the competition. You can choose from a variety of font styles, sizes, color schemes and illumination trends to suit your business needs as in the following: Front-lit channel letters,... read more
Top 5 Benefits Of LED Displays

Top 5 Benefits Of LED Displays

LED displays have come a long way. From the single color models a few decades back, they have evolved into the colorful and animated attractions that modern businesses use today to enhance their visibility. LED Displays – An Overview LED stands for light emitting diode and works on three basic elements – pixel, pitch and matrix. A pixel is composed of LEDs while pitch is the distance between pixels with matrix being the size of the LED sign determined by the number of horizontal and vertical pixels used. The color scheme, size, LED density and viewing angle of your LED sign are important factors to consider. A color signage is ideal for animation while a monochrome sign is fine for static or text displays like those of offices, schools and clinics. When determining the size of your sign, a bigger sign needs more pixels and a larger pitch. LED density determines the brightness of your LED sign while wide viewing angles are more effective than narrow viewing ones. A trusted LED display provider should be able to give the best advice on these details. The Benefits of LED Displays Studies have shown that a majority of customers come to know of businesses through their business signs. Tips For Combining Typefaces On A Sign

Tips For Combining Typefaces On A Sign

While many amateur graphic artists will reach for a multitude of typefaces to make their point in a single piece, more experienced ones know that subtlety and a light hand make for a much more effective campaign. To accomplish this goal, they rely on on some fairly simple techniques. Here are just a few of the more obvious: Three is Enough – While it is tempting to use any and every font that strikes your fancy, bear in mind that your audience does not share your artistic sensibility. Instead, they want a message delivered in as clear and efficient a manner as possible. So, stay focused and use three or less fonts when laying out any graphic. It is simply the fastest way to deliver your message. Balance the Weight – Many non-professional typesetters and graphic designers fail to distinguish the difference between a “heavy” type and a “bold” one. While the differences can be miniscule, a trained eye understands that a balance must be maintained between all the elements on the page. Finding the proper balance is key to understanding the difference. Don’t Mix Serifs and Non-Serif – On a more subtle note, the aesthetic aspects of a typeface can have a significant effect on how it is perceived. Serifs are the little “trails” that are attached to letters in certain typefaces. They are normally considered a part of traditional fonts. As such, more formal graphic presentations will use them while more contemporary uses will opt for a sans serif format. As one can imagine, reconciling the various aspects of multiple typefaces can be a daunting task. Just... read more
