I was out working on Steve's window neon display we fabricated a few years ago. The window neon display is one of a kind and provides both an eye catching feature outside the store as well as inside the store. Configured with pink and blue neon in the shape of waves, the shapes and colors match well with Steve's unique decor. Steve had called us for service after a child had broken a piece of neon, resulting in a failure of the entire left side of the display. The display uses over 40 feet of 15mm neon, and once a neon tube is damaged, the circuit is broken and the display will not light. Since the circuit was broken, the neon transformer that supplies the 12000 volts needed to light the display failed as well.

 What did Signdealz do?

We started by making replacing the neon transformer and a new neon unit. Seems simple, but it's beginning to find a shop that does neon repairs and neon fabrication. We let our neon bender go last year because there just wasn't enough demand for neon so we subcontract this service out.

How does this affect you the customer?

Well, expect to pay more and wait longer on neon repairs. There are only a handful of neon benders left and they want more to fix and repair neon units because they know there are less of them every year. Simple supply and demand.

Here is what we at Signdealz recommend.

If possible convert your existing neon display or sign to LED's. What does this do? Well, save you a ton of money over both the short and long term. LED's consume a lot less power, and last for over 10 years before they need replacement. The also maintain their brightness throughout their lifetime unlike neon, which starts to lose brightness after 2 years. LED manufactures have now brought the cost of the technology way down below neon, and it's a lot safer because it uses only 12 volts, instead of 12,000 to 15,000 volts needed to power neon. This was the case with Weaver's main sign. The logo box was lit with 15mm white neon and the neon transformer had failed. We pulled out the neon, and in 30 minutes added LED's and an LED Power Supply adding both energy savings and sustained reliability to the sign.
